End User License Agreement

Last updated: 2026-04-03

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("User") and Astral Space Lab ("Licensor") for the use of SYMBIONT software ("Software"). By installing or using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.

1. License Grant

The Licensor grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Software on a single machine, subject to the terms of your purchased tier:

  • Trial — Free, 7-day evaluation. 50 node types, 384kHz, no recording.
  • SYMBIONT — Perpetual license. 122 node types, 192kHz ceiling, recording.
  • PROFESSIONAL — Perpetual license. 122 node types, 768kHz ceiling, recording, nonlinear summing.
  • CO-SYMBIONT — Perpetual license. 122+ node types, 768kHz, OSC I/O, early access, all future major upgrades, and credit listing.

2. Machine Binding

Each license is bound to a single machine identified by a hardware fingerprint. To transfer your license to a different machine, contact the Licensor for deactivation and reactivation.

3. Restrictions

You may not:

  • Copy, distribute, or share the Software or your license key with third parties.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software.
  • Modify or create derivative works based on the Software.
  • Use the Software for any unlawful purpose.
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent the license verification system.

4. Ownership

The Software and all intellectual property rights therein remain the exclusive property of the Licensor. This Agreement does not grant you any ownership rights.

5. Audio Output

You retain full ownership of all audio content you create using the Software. No royalties or attributions are required for your creative output.

6. Updates

All paid tiers (SYMBIONT, PROFESSIONAL) include free minor updates. Major version upgrades may require an additional fee, with upgrade pricing available to existing license holders. CO-SYMBIONT licenses include all future major upgrades at no additional cost.

7. Disclaimer of Warranty

The Software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The Licensor does not warrant that the Software will be error-free or uninterrupted.

7A. System Requirements & Performance

The Software demands exceptionally high computational resources. Performance is highly dependent on your system configuration. The Licensor recommends the following minimum specifications:

  • Apple Silicon M1 Max or later
  • 64 GB RAM
  • 768kHz-capable DAC recommended for full-resolution monitoring
  • 768kHz full-capacity operation: Apple M5 Max or later recommended

Sample rate and simultaneous node count are a tradeoff. Higher sample rates require greater computational resources per node, reducing the number of nodes that can operate simultaneously without audio dropouts. The maximum node count (128) is not guaranteed at all sample rates on all supported hardware. The SYMBIONT tier can serve as a system verification tool at your intended sample rate to confirm that your system meets your performance expectations before upgrading. Performance characteristics attributable to this tradeoff or to insufficient system specifications are not covered by any warranty.

8. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall the Licensor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Software, regardless of the cause of action, even if the Licensor has been advised of the possibility of such damages. The Licensor's total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the Software.

9. Termination

This Agreement is effective until terminated. The Licensor may terminate this Agreement immediately if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and delete all copies.

10. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising from this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Japan.

11. Changes to This Agreement

The Licensor reserves the right to modify this Agreement at any time. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
